MISSION COMPLETE!!!

ALL SOLDIERS HOME AFTER LONG YEAR - WELCOME HOME!!!

Mission Complete

On March 27, 2010 at approximately 1500 hours (3:00 p.m. EDT), the second wave of Soldiers from Bravo 2/121 48th Brigade Infantry Combat Team, Georgia Army National Guard, arrived at Fort Stewart Georgia.  With the arrival of the first wave at approximately 0300 hours (3:00 a.m. EDT) on Thursday March 25, all of our Bravo 2/121 soldiers are back from Afghanistan.  A long year is over.

We continue to have wounded recovering. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

SFC Mark Allen is at Bethesda Naval Medical Center where he had surgery on March 17 to replace the damaged portion of his cranium with a prosthetic implant.  He will return to Tampa Veteran's Affairs  Hospital PolyTrauma as early as Monday for continued long term care and recovery for traumatic brain injury due to gunshot head wound sustained during a fierce firefight on July 8, 2009.

CPL Jonathan Morita continues rehabilitation and recovery as an outpatient near his home in Southern California.  He was struck by a rocket propelled grenade during the same firefight where SFC Mark Allen was wounded.  His remaining primary issue is damage to his hand, specifically his right index finger.

SPC Charles Benson continues outpatient recovery for his hands / back wounds on outpatient basis at his home in Albany GA.  He was also wounded by a rocket propelled grenade on July 8, 2009 in the same firefight as Cpl. Morita and SFC Allen.

SFC Garrye Ware continues to recover from chest and head wounds at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC area but is up, alert, walking and talking.  It is hoped he will be able to soon transfer for further recovery at Ft. Stewart which is near his home in Southeast GA.  His primary remaining recovery issue is an eye wound that affected his vision, but prognosis is hopeful and good that he will recover full vision in the affected eye.  SFC Ware was wounded on February 11, 2010 when a suicide bomber entered the barracks / sleeping area of the unit's compound in eastern Afghanistan and detonated a bomb.

SSG Marty Brownlee continues outpatient recovery for his leg wounds suffered during the same suicide bomb attack as SFC Ware.  His recovery is outpatient at home and through Ft Benning GA.

An Official Welcome Home Ceremony will be held mid-summer and current planning is under way by the Family Readiness Group leadership in conjunction with the unit commander Capt. Michael Persley and local volunteers and government officials.  More details will be released closer in time so that the public may plan to attend and be part of the official ceremony.  Soldiers will not be busing back from Ft. Stewart as they will be released to go home from there once their demobilization is completed in 7 - 10 days.  Soldiers will be released from mandatory drill duty for the next few months so that they may have time with their families and opportunity to re-integrate in their communities and on their jobs.
